The 12th of January at 9:30 in the morning the people were joined by Mayor Sanders, Congressman Bob Filner, Senator Denice Moreno Ducheny, County Supervisor Cox, Representative Bustamante from the office of Tijuana Mayor, Jorge Ramos, Council President Benjamin Hueso, and Ms. Solorzano from the office of Assemblywoman Mary Salas. Also many representatives from our neighboring communities of Imperial Beach, Chula Vista, Customs and Border Protection, San Diego Redevelopment Agency, President of Southwestern College, among many other dignitaries who joined us in our celebration! Remarks from our dignitaries all spoke to the significance of San Ysidro as a community situated on the busiest border crossing in the world, but also an important element of the city of San Diego, and our intricate ties to Tijuana. Senator Denice Ducheny recognized the significance of the historic library and the amazing foresight the founders of San Ysidro had for placing the library in the center of the town. Mariachi Diamante, a very talented group of local young people, donated their time and talent to begin the ceremony as well as played during the coffee hour and truly created the festive atmosphere needed! The coffee was donated by two local Starbucks locations, and the elaborate and very delicious pastries were donated by Jaramillo Catering, a local and young talented couple who gave freely of their time to provide such a delicious spread! Darrin Roberts provided all floral free of charge as well and worked magic with the wreath, pastry table pieces, and check in table floral. All of our food service pieces came from the Delgadillo-Sanchez and Barajas family. We mention all of our amazing donors because they illustrate the close-knit and giving Community that is San Ysidro, and the spirit that will continue to bring us into the next Century with prosperity and connectedness. Below a full calendar of the Centennial Year, along with all of its many celebrations is attached.
