THOUSANDS TO ATTEND FREE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION FESTIVAL! PDF Print E-mail
San Ysidro, CA., April 1, 2009 — The South San Diego community of San Ysidro will celebrate its 100th Birthday with a huge festival expected to be attended by thousands on Saturday 16th of May 2009 from 11am to 7pm.  The celebration will be held at the San Ysidro Athletic Center (Larsen Field- 4100 Camino De La Plaza, San Ysidro, CA).

Celebrated each year as the community’s heritage day, Dia de San Ysidro has been adopted by the San Ysidro Centennial Advisory Committee, as one of the official San Ysidro Centennial Celebrations. Participating in the organizing of this event is The San Ysidro Centennial Advisory Committee as well as Casa Familiar, Inc., a non-profit community service organization serving San Ysidro for more than 30 years, XLTN Radio Latina 104.5 FM, the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce and BM 3 Productions.

San Ysidro is home to the world's busiest land border crossing, ushering in and out of the United States over 50 million people per year. While this might be San Ysidro/Tijuana’s Claim to Fame, there exists a very lively community beyond the rusty wall that separates it. The mission of the Centennial Celebration is to honor this community with a festival that will make San Ysidro gleam on this very special night.

The San Ysidro Centennial Celebration will feature headlining acts by Vilma Diaz- La Voz Original de la
Sonora, Los Tiranos Del Norte, Explosion Norteña, Ruben y Sus Corazones Solitarios as well as local music groups Agua Dulce and Revival among many other talented artists. The celebration will also include food and merchandise vendors, info & resource booths, arts & crafts workshops, a funzone, a low rider car show, a beer garden and the creation of a community art project that will become a Public Art Display to commemorate the spirit of this 100 year old community.

We encourage everyone to come out and celebrate this wonderful occasion with San Ysidro! Admission is FREE. Food and Drinks will be sold. Family Friendly Environment and entertainment for all ages! Free transportation will be provided from designated locations. Visitors are encouraged to use public transportation – trade in your trolley/bus ticket for a free raffle ticket!
